Experience

In recent years Alisdair has specialised in providing criminal and migration law services, acting as defence counsel in criminal matters and also assisting with migration appeals to administrative review bodies and undertaking judicial review of migration decisions.

Concurrently Alisdair is a reserve military lawyer that undertakes complex administrative inquiries for the Australian Defence Force and appears as counsel in court martial proceedings.

Alisdair has worked as a stabilisation adviser for the Australian Government at a forward operating base in Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan for a year. He has also undertaken several short term rule of law consultancies indirectly for the UN & EU in Iraq & Pakistan, and conducted a review of the operating procedures of the Office of Inspections & Investigations of the World Food Program in Rome.

Alisdair was a Principal Federal Prosecutor for seven years overseeing often complex investigations and prosecutions of corporate, tax and social security fraud, money laundering, drug importation, bankruptcy, customs and passports offences, and child sex tourism.  He was also a State Prosecutor for over three years, primarily acting as a trial attorney in the prosecution of violent crimes, sex offences and drug related matters, including circuit work in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. He has been sole trial counsel in over 55 criminal trials.

Alisdair worked as an investigator and senior investigator with the Office of the Prosecutor of the Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Court for four years.

Early in his career Alisdair worked for fourteen years in national security as a operations officer, intelligence analyst and Assistant Legal Counsel.

Alisdair has Bachelor degrees in Arts and Law, specialising in administrative and international law, including a Masters of Law degree from the Australian National University.
